Downtown Bartow's October Now Runs From Friday Night Into Saturday Morning

On Friday, October 16, Main Street Bartow's Friday Fest wraps up at 9 p.m. Eleven hours later, at 8 a.m. Saturday, runners line up at Fort Blount Park for the first OctoberFAST Fun Run 5K. Main Street Bartow has never put a Friday night and a Saturday morning this close together. The 5K is also the one item on the fall calendar that charges admission, and its proceeds go back into the organization that runs the free events.

Downtown Bartow's monthly Friday Fest has been a one-night event until now. This October it becomes the first half of a weekend.

Friday Night on Central Avenue

Friday Fest takes over downtown on the third Friday of each month from 6 to 9 p.m. It skips June, July and December. Main Street Bartow describes the regular format as entertainment, food, vendors and a car show. Each month gets its own theme. September 18 was Western night, and October's edition is Bartoberfest.

Bartoberfest is the Oktoberfest version. The Lakeland Mom listing places it at 180 S. Central Ave. and lists it as free for all ages. Live music and the car show are back, and three contests are added on top: stein hoisting, axe throwing, and best dressed in German attire. Winners are announced by the end of the night. The organizers haven't posted a vendor list or details on what will be poured, so check the Main Street Bartow page before you go if that matters to you.

On its own, that's a normal Friday Fest with steins. The difference this year is what happens the next morning.

Saturday at 8 a.m., Fort Blount Park

The OctoberFAST Fun Run 5K and Kids 1K starts at Fort Blount Park in downtown Bartow on Saturday, October 17. The race page calls it the "1st Annual Main Street Bartow Octoberfast 5K & Kids 1K Fun Run," which tells you Main Street Bartow plans to make it a yearly event.

Here's what to know before you sign up on RunSignup:

5K Kids 1K
Start time 8:00 a.m. 9:00 a.m.
Entry fee $40 $15 with shirt, $10 without
Included Bib, long-sleeved dri-fit shirt while supplies last, finisher medal, timing and results, post-race refreshments Bib, finisher medal, shirt only with the $15 entry

The organizers say the course goes through downtown streets and the historic Bartow neighborhoods around them, and the race page doesn't list the course street by street. If you live near downtown and want to know whether your street will have runners on it Saturday morning, ask Main Street Bartow directly.

The race is relaxed about timing. The event page says it is a recreational fun run, not a certified or professionally timed race, and any posted times are unofficial. So walkers, strollers and a family that stayed out late at Bartoberfest all fit right in. The one-hour gap between the 5K and the Kids 1K also means a parent can run, cool down, and then cheer at the finish line.

Where the Race Money Goes

According to the race page, the event supports Main Street Bartow's mission of downtown revitalization, community events and local business development. That's what ties the weekend together. Bartoberfest is free. A $40 race entry the next morning goes back to the group that puts on the free nights, along with the trick-or-treat trail, the parade and the craft fair.

The calendar has been building toward this all fall. September had three downtown events in nine days: Friday Fest on the 18th, Tour de Tow on the 19th and the Fall Festival on the 26th. October follows the same pattern with a Friday night and a Saturday morning back to back. On the third weekend of each month, downtown Bartow now has something happening on two days instead of one.

A Sweet Stop on East Main Street

All that weekend traffic passes the newest arrival on East Main Street. Delectable Delights is an ice cream, sweets and toy shop that started in Lutz. It opened its fifth location at 375 E. Main St. in a former theater space. The Greater Bartow Chamber held its ribbon cutting on July 30, 2026, and Main Street Bartow now includes it in its downtown dining directory.

Owner Devra Wygant, who runs the business with her husband Daniel, explained the choice of building to What Now last November:

"This will be our third building that is around 100 years old. She (yes, I like to personify the buildings) used to be a theater, and we are actually bringing in authentic cast-iron theater chairs from the 1920s to help set the stage."

Daniel Wygant told the same outlet the Bartow shop is "probably at least double the size of our next largest store." The extra room allows more retail, and he said the couple hopes to have local vendors selling their goods inside. The menu includes ice cream, milkshakes, brownies and molten cakes, and Daniel pointed out that the hot desserts suit cooler weather. That timing works well with an evening parade at the end of October.

Dog owners have a newer downtown stop too. Hounds Downtown is a grooming salon and boutique at 125 S. Central Ave. The Chamber held its ribbon cutting on April 16, 2026, and the shop's website says it is taking new clients.

The Rest of the Run to Thanksgiving

After the race, the calendar keeps going at the same pace. Here's what Main Street Bartow has posted for the next six weeks:

  1. Friday, October 23: Trick or Treat Trail, followed by Movie on the Lawn showing Hotel Transylvania. The organizers haven't named the lawn yet.
  2. Thursday, October 29: Halloween Parade and Carnival.
  3. Saturday, November 14: the 35th Annual Honey Bee Craft Fair, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., on the same day as the monthly Antique Market, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  4. November 14 and 15: Chalk Walk, held with the craft fair.
  5. Friday, November 20: Friday Fest/Magic on Main, 6 to 9 p.m.
  6. Saturday, November 28: Shop Small Saturday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Main Street Bartow's own pages disagree on two start times. The printed 2026 calendar lists the Trick or Treat Trail from 4 to 9 p.m., while the announcements page gives a different time. The calendar puts the Halloween Parade at 4:30 p.m., and the announcements page says 4 p.m. If you're bringing small kids or saving a spot along the parade route, plan for the earlier time and check the organizers' Facebook page that week.

November has its own double weekend. The Honey Bee Craft Fair, the Antique Market and the first day of Chalk Walk all fall on Saturday the 14th, and Chalk Walk continues Sunday. The Friday-Saturday pattern from October shows up again a month later, and Magic on Main follows six days after it.

If Bartoberfest weekend has you thinking about everything within walking distance of Central Avenue, our team at Brian Stephens knows these blocks well, from the historic streets the 5K runs through to the storefronts along East Main.
